Palpable Placement 2

I have been in the wood work shop using a jigsaw to cut out perfect holes to slot my sticks into. This way the sticks are free standing and secure for exhibiting.

this is how tom showed me. so i followed his line. big up tom x

To present my work for my upcoming exhibition, I have a few options. Originally, I wanted to fill the corridor in studio two with multiple (around 6) freestanding sticks. After conversations with Beverley Bennett, I explained that this would be an affective way of displaying them at eye level. You are met with them as if they are a presence in the room. I likened this to entering a grave yard. Where past life is present, but of course you can not see them. So, my sticks would take on the role similar to that of a grave stone, a vertical signifier for something that lies beneath – unseen.

More recently, it occurred to my that this presentation wouldn’t necessarily be the most dynamic. Alternatively, the sicks could protrude out of this pillar. This way, I will have incorporated the organic free flowing shapes of the paper cut outs with the angular composition of the architecture it will fill.

In order to secure the sticks and the bases onto the pillar – they needed to be reinforced with support bars. Adhered on with wood glue and two screws.
