‘Here is when ideas materialised.’
Initially I began to map out links by spilling my convoluted thoughts into these pages. I wasn’t very hopeful that they’d make sense in the morning. In fact my thoughts haven’t really materialised at all here but I know that I’ve made the foundations, and I’ll continue to refer back to these pages. They’re a bit like an MRI scan of a baby. I sort of know what I’m looking at, but mostly, I don’t. I’ll convince myself that it will take shape soon enough…
So within these scribblings is a very thick or very thin line (depending which way you look at it) drawn between medicine and poison. I want to connect them by emphasising a grey area that went unseen. Then I’ll probably separate them again.
Botulinum vs. Botox
A potent acute toxin.
To consider an improper process of consumption, I first had to find out what the proper use of botulinum is. I’ve referred to online medical journals to find the point at which poison becomes medicine.
The graphs above made me feel immensely confused and intrigued. These images are what prompted my exploration into Botulinum toxin (BoNT) .
The functionality of our body depends on neurotransmitters, I’m specifically interested in acetylcholine (ACh) ; Botulism inhibits its release & therefore its effects.
This inhibition causes our muscles to become limp, flaccid and unable to contract.
I’m considering the functionality of beauty and how this is increasingly depending on botulism or more commonly known as botox.
